Hongseong County, focal point of western Chungnam Province, is locating at the crossroad connecting Metropolitan with local areas. The west comes into contact with coastline of the West Sea, the north, the east, and the south are encountered with Seosan, Yesan, Boryeong, respectively. It covers a total area of approximately 443.82 square kilometers and has a population of 91,452 with 33,942 households. Its administrative districts consist of 2 town and 9 subcounties.
The average yearly temperature is 11.4¡É, the average in January is £2.2¡É, and the average in August is 24.9¡É. The average amount of precipitation over the year is 1,467mm.
Hongseong with a variety of tour resources like lake, historical and cultural sites is one of the main tourist attractions in Korea. After the western coastal highway and coastal sightseeing road network were completed, the number of tourists rapidly increased. In addition, it is very close to access the metropolitan area with the construction of west coast highway. |

| Hongseong is driving the cultivation of special farm products as well as pesticide-free, scientific farming. Hongseong, largest livestock producing area in Korea, is also building model livestock farms by determining pig farming as the special livestock industry of Hongseong. Gwangcheon pickled shrimp, ripened in caves, is highly recognized in Korea and is also drawing attention as a development item. |
